Anvil Logic is assisting a number of government organizations in
solving their Information Technology challenges, including the U.S.
Treasury, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), U.S.
Customs, and most recently, the Food and Drug Administration. Our
work at the USPTO is representative of the support we provide our
government customers. Under the System Development and Maintenance (SDM)
contract in support of the USPTO, Anvil Logic played a key roll in
the development and maintenance of the Examiners Automated Search
Tool (EAST), a full text search and retrieval application. EAST is
the online database of the USPTO in Washington, D.C. and deals with
30 terabytes (30 million gigabytes) of data and is used by the
patent examiners to examine 340,000 applications a year, some of
which can run to millions of printed pages. Using the IS&R (Image
Search & Retrieval) system, EAST provides the examiner complete
access to U.S. patent documents (including all drawings) dating back
to 1790 and can be searched by classification or patent number. The
full text of all U.S. patents issued since 1971 is also available on
EAST -- this portion of the system is fully searchable by keyword(s),
inventor name, assignee, date, patent number, cited references,
application number or classification. In addition, the EAST system
automatically reclassifies every patent when classes are added or
revised.
